Kurt W. Schönherr

Kurt W. Schönherr (born August 11, 1931 in Znojmo , Czechoslovakia ; † June 13, 2013 in Backnang ) was a German economist and educator .

Career

After graduating from high school in Schorndorf in 1951 , he completed an apprenticeship as an industrial clerk at Carl Zeiss AG from 1951 to 1954 . From 1954 to 1959 he studied at the Universities of Stuttgart , Vienna and Tübingen Economics . From 1975 to 1980 he went on to study philosophy and education at the universities of Salzburg , Wuppertal and Vienna , where he was awarded a Dr. phil. received his doctorate. In 1992 he was appointed professor of business administration by the Ministry of Science of the State of Baden-Württemberg .

In 1959, Schönherr founded the AKAD Academic Society for Adult Training GmbH in Stuttgart (today: AKAD private universities ) as a subsidiary of the Swiss AKAD at the time and was its managing director and president of the three state-recognized AKAD universities of applied sciences until 1997. From 1969 to 1975 he was first chairman of the working group for correct distance learning (today: Forum DistancE-Learning) and from 1970 to 1978 External Relations Officer of the European Distance Learning Council (CEC). As a member of the European Distance Learning Council and as a delegate of the employers' associations to the European Commission in Brussels, as well as through numerous publications in the press, radio and television, Dr. Schönherr used for the seriousness of the distance learning system. With his demand to create a state supervisory authority, he gave the impetus for the creation of the Central Office for Distance Learning (ZFU) and thus also for the later implementation of the Distance Learning Protection Act.

From 1980 to 2005 he taught business ethics , corporate management and marketing at various private and state universities. He then became involved as the founding rector of the German University in Armenia and as an advisor to the International University of the YMCA in Kassel , the Nehemia University in Albania and the VPT University Fellbach i.Gr. in Fellbach . He headed the popular science initiative UNI LIVE in Weissach . Most recently he was director of the German Academy for Management in Berlin .
