LATAM Airlines Colombia is a Colombian airline . It is a member of the aviation alliance Oneworld Alliance and is a subsidiary of the LATAM Airlines Group , which was created in 2012 from the merger of the Chilean airline LAN Airlines with the Brazilian TAM Linhas Aéreas .

history

The Colombian airline Aires Colombia , most recently AIRES (for Aerovías de Integración Regional Aires SA ), was founded in 1981 and started operations on February 23, 1981. Originally the company was based in Ibagué . The first aircraft to be used were the Embraer EMB 110 .

In October 2010, AIRES was taken over by the Chilean LAN Airlines and is now integrated into the LATAM Airlines Group . Since September 2011, AIRES has been painted by the parent company LAN, because since December 5, 2011 it has appeared on the market under its then new name LAN Colombia . On August 4, 2012, the company name was changed to LAN Airlines Colombia SA. In 2015 she officially joined IATA . On May 5, 2016, after the parent company LAN Chile joined the LATAM Airlines Group, the company name was again changed to LATAM Airlines Colombia.

Since October 2013, LATAM Airlines Colombia has been a member of the oneworld aviation alliance through its parent company .

Incidents

  • On the morning of August 16, 2010, a Boeing 737-700 of the then AIRES was flown against an embankment 49 meters in front of the runway due to a landing approach that was too low on the island of San Andrés . The machine then broke into several parts. There were 125 passengers and six crew members on board. Two of the passengers died and nine suffered serious injuries.
