action

Giulio is a middle-aged lawyer with a thriving law firm. The womanizer spends his free time in short, non-binding relationships with various women. In a bar, he noticed the physical qualities of the student Ivana, whom he followed on the street. He doesn't let himself be shaken off even when she threatens to report him. He sneaks into her parents under a pretext.

Giulio soon puts the cards on the table and asks Ivana's father to visit her. The parents are quite pleased with their daughter's connection with the lawyer. During the following visits, Ivana remains cool. Ivana's middle-class family is in debt; the high-ranking police officer whose portrait hangs in the room is an uncle. The 17-year-old girl and the significantly older Giulio seem to have no common interests; he regards her as some kind of toy and is only interested in her voluptuous body. Things don't work out well with other women. Giulio speaks to a former partner who knows him well. She warns him that he is about to do something stupid and get a bad deal. He asked Ivana's parents for their daughter's hand. They get engaged and agree to marry in four months. Although he is allowed to be alone with Ivana with the tolerance and encouragement of his parents, she is uncomfortable with his touch and she blocks his sexual advances: The uncle is very jealous. Giulio and Ivana are being followed more and more by a white Fiat 600; Ivana points out that her uncle is being monitored. Giulio manages to invest in an engagement ring for 2 million lire, which the girl accepts. However, she looks forward to marriage and the expected everyday life with resignation. When they are together unseen in a laundry room, she only lets him catch a glimpse of her underwear. But one day she promises to come to him and give herself to him. Instead of the long-awaited lunchtime, Giulio gets a shock when Ivana tells him that she is two months pregnant. It would be impossible for him to deny that he was the father because, under constant surveillance, she had met no man other than him. She blackmailed him into giving her the expensive ring and paying another million for the termination of the pregnancy. Finally she confesses to him that the pregnancy was only faked and that the police officer is not a relative at all, and that she has a boyfriend of the same age. With the proceeds of the ring and the money she received from Giulio, the family paid off their debts and Ivana bought a car with her boyfriend. Giulio simply paid the hardship. Ivana drives off with her boyfriend, and Giulio is again with playmates as before.

criticism

The lexicon of international film saw a "(b) swinging, slightly frivolous comedy with sympathetic actors." The Segnalazioni Cinematografiche judged the work as "smooth, well played and with witty dialogues". The bitter moral of the story is said to have only limited effectiveness due to the sympathy with the main actor.
