Jens Engelen (born December 3, 1991 in Lier ) is a Belgian ice hockey player who has been playing again for HYC Herentals in the Belgian-Dutch BeNe League since 2015 .

Career

Jens Engelen began his career as an ice hockey player with the Phantoms Antwerp in the Belgian honor division . In 2007 he moved to league competitor HYC Herentals , with whom he became Belgian champion in 2009 . After this success he moved to the Netherlands to the Tilburg Trappers and became Dutch runners-up in 2010 with his new team and cup winners in the following season . But already in the middle of the 2010/11 season he returned to Herentals and, in addition to his appearances in the Belgian league, also played in the Belgian-Dutch North Sea Cup . After Engelen became Belgian national champion for the second time with Herentals in 2012, his club switched to the Dutch honor division , where he was the only Belgian team to compete. In October 2014 he moved to the Solway Sharks in the National Ice Hockey League , the third British league. Since 2015 he has been playing again for HYC Herentals and now in the newly founded Belgian-Dutch BeNe League , the first edition of which he won with the club in 2016. This also meant winning the Belgian championship title. In addition, he won the Belgian cup competition with HYC in 2012, 2013 and 2016 .

International

For Belgium Engelen already took part in the U-18 World Championships in 2007 , 2008 and 2009 in Division II. In the U20 he played at the 2007 , 2008 , 2009 , 2010 and 2011 World Championships . At his first appearance in 2007, the Belgians had to start over in the lowest class, where a second place at the tournament in Ankara enabled them to be promoted to Division II, in which Engelen played the other four tournaments.

With the men's national team , Engelen took part in the World Championships of Division II in 2009 , 2010 , 2011 , 2012 , 2013 , 2014 when he was the top scorer among the tournament's defensive players, and in 2015 when he was again the top scorer of the defenders. With the Belgians in 2012, he was promoted from the B to the A group of Division II.
