La Rouge is a village and a commune Déléguée in the French commune of Val-au-Perche with 680 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Orne in the region of Normandy .

location

The village of La Rouge is located in the extreme south of Normandy, surrounded by the Perche Regional Nature Park, on the small river Rougette at a height of approx. 100  m . The next larger town is Nogent-le-Rotrou, just under 10 km northeast . The climate is influenced to a large extent by the sea and is therefore almost frost-free; Rain (approx. 660 mm / year) falls throughout the year.

Despite the closure of small farms and the mechanization of agriculture , the population of the municipality has remained remarkably stable.

economy

In earlier centuries the population lived largely as a self-sufficiency from field and pasture farming; Vegetables and small livestock were raised in the in-house gardens and stables. Today, wheat (blé) , rye (seigle) , barley (orge) and buckwheat (sarrasin) are mainly grown.

history

During the Hundred Years War (1337-1453), both the place and the church were probably damaged.

With effect from January 1, 2016, the previous municipalities of Gémages , L'Hermitière , Mâle , La Rouge , Saint-Agnan-sur-Erre and Le Theil were merged into a Commune nouvelle with the name Val-au-Perche and dispose of the new one Commune on the status of a Commune déléguée . The administrative headquarters are located in Le Theil.

La Rouge - Église Saint-Rémi
  • Originally from the 12./13. Église Saint-Rémi , dating from the 19th century, is dedicated to St. Remigius of Reims , a bishop of the 5th / 6th centuries Century, consecrated. However, the church was in the 15./16. Century renewed except for the portal. Numerous late medieval and early modern furnishings have been placed under protection.

Surroundings

  • The Manoir de la Gauberdière , located approx. 2 km northwest of the village, dates from around 1500; The most important component is the residential wing ( corps de logis ) with its stair tower built on an octagonal floor plan . The building complex including its chapel was placed under protection as a monument historique in 1995 .
  • The Château de Lorière , located approx. 2 km to the north and dating from the middle of the 18th century, has replaced a late medieval building. It was recognized as a Monument historique in 1990 .
