Labinot Harbuzi (born April 4, 1986 in Lund , † October 11, 2018 in Malmö ) was a Swedish football player . The midfielder , who went through all of the Swedish youth selections, began his professional career in the Netherlands.

Career

Harbuzi's parents come from Kosovo , but Harbuzi himself was Swede. He started playing football at Håkanstorp BK. In 1994 he joined the Malmö BI youth team before moving to Falkenbergs FF in 1999. In 2000 he went to Malmö FF for a short time and then moved to Feyenoord in the Netherlands at the age of 15 . At the same time he was appointed by Hans Lindbom for the first time in the Swedish youth selection, in which he was subsequently able to establish himself.

In 2004 Feyenoord awarded Harbuzi to the Rotterdam local rivals SBV Excelsior in the second-class Eerste Divisie . At the end of the season he returned after nine league games, but was not used in the honor division . Nevertheless, he moved up to the Swedish U-21 national team , in which he made his debut in February 2006 in the 0-1 loss to the Irish youth team by a goal by Ian Ward as a substitute from the 74th minute for Fredrik Petersson .

In March 2006, the Swedish club Malmö FF signed Harbuzi before the start of the 2006 season . Due to an injury, the former youth player of the club hardly played in his first two years in Sweden, so that he was no longer included in the junior selection. In the course of the 2008 season , the midfielder made his breakthrough at Malmö FF and in the following season he played eleven of the twelve season games right up to the summer break. Although he has not played another game for the U-21s since his debut, he was surprisingly appointed to the squad for the U-21 European Championship in Sweden in late May . In the squad of the selection coach Jörgen Lennartsson and Tommy Söderberg , he was next to Guillermo Molins one of two players at Malmö FF. In the course of the tournament he came to three short appearances and reached the semi-finals with the team, in which they were defeated by the English U-21 selection on penalties.

In July 2009 Harbuzi left Sweden and joined the Turkish club Gençlerbirliği , with whom he signed a contract valid until 2012. At the beginning he moved to the second line under the new coach Fuat Çapa in 2011. In December, the player and club dissolved his contract at the turn of the year. During the winter break he therefore moved to league rivals Manisaspor on a free transfer , for whom he played five league games until mid-March. Towards the end of the season he was no longer included in the squad. The club missed relegation at the end of the season, its expiring contract was not extended.

Harbuzi then returned to Sweden, where he signed a contract with first division club Syrianska FC in mid-August 2012 until the end of the year. At his new club he was unable to assert himself. By the end of the year he played only three season games as a substitute. After his contract expired at the turn of the year, he subsequently remained without a club.

death

Harbuzi died on October 11, 2018. According to his friend and football colleague Paweł Cibicki , with whom he met the previous day, Harbuzi showed no signs of illness. The next morning, Harbuzi suffered cardiac arrest and was found in critical condition by his father. After his parents performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation , an ambulance took him to the hospital, where he later died. Harbuzi was 32 years old.
