The district of Lachaqui is located in the province of Canta in the Lima region of western Peru . The district was established on January 16, 1952. In 2017, 952 people lived on an area of ​​128 km². In 1993 the population was 1156, in 2007 985. The administrative center is the 3668  m high village of Lachaqui with 655 inhabitants (as of 2017). Lachaqui is 9.5 km south of the provincial capital Canta .

Geographical location

The district of Lachaqui is located in the mountains of the Peruvian Western Cordillera in the southeast of the province of Canta. The Río Quisquichaca, the upper reaches of the Río Arahuay, drains the area in a south-southwest direction.

The Lachaqui district borders on the Arahuay district in the south, the Santa Rosa de Quives district in the west, the San Buenaventura district in the northwest, the Canta district in the northeast and the Laraos district ( Huarochirí province ) in the east .
