Criticism
The reviews of Ladyhawke were mostly positive. Metacritic calculated an average score of 70%. Time Off reviewer Ben Preece gave the album a positive rating, highlighting Brown's 1980s influences, particularly those of her idols Cyndi Lauper and Stevie Nicks . However, Brown would still not sound “ retro ”, but very “modern, fresh, appropriate and original for the present day” ( modern, fresh, up-to-the-minute and completely original ).

Simon Price from the Independent also praised the work: “Their singles bring back the sound of synthesizer-based cocaine - AOR , in the mood of Stevie Nicks and Belinda Carlisle . ( ... her singles "Back of the Van" and "Paris Is Burning" ... reprise the sound of synth-based cocaine AOR in a Stevie Nicks / Belinda Carlisle vein. ) "
Dan Cairns, reviewer for The Sunday Times , also gave the album a positive rating.
Jon O'Brien from Allmusic commented: "... it sounds fresh thanks to skillful production and Brown's fiery and lively vocals" (... it still manages to sound fresh thanks to its clever production and Brown's fiery and vibrant vocals.).
The Guardian's Judge Rogers stated: " Magic is the best track to open an album with, especially the songs Dusk Till Dwan , My Delirium and Another Runaway are well done and an example of good pop and synthpop music."
Elvissia Williams of BBC Music compared the album to the 1985 comedy The Breakfast Club : “Like John Hughes’s classic film, her album brings out the love of innocent young beautiful girls, that’s how the album and songs best describe the whole thing The album is nice and puts you in a good mood, with this album the New Wave music of the 80s enters a new generation ”.
Mark Beaumont of NME wrote, “Your singing with the synth pop songs reminds you of the prime of Bananarama , Rio and Watermen , but the full album makes it the first true 1980s synth pop album since ABC's The Lexicon of Love ".
Peter Robinson from The Observer noted "The album captivates someone the first time I listened to it, when I heard it I had the feeling I was riding with her on a red motorcycle through the desert".
Emily Tartanella from PopMatters criticized the album: "The album is magical, fairytale-like and beautiful, but these aspects will be rejected by the majority of the masses, everything is as positive as already said, but commercially the album is hardly noticed and rejected".
