The Lahe downer is a 5.5 km long connecting channel between the Lahe and the eastern part of the coastal channel . The coastal canal, built between 1921 and 1935, serves as a connecting canal between the Hunte (Lower Weser) and the Dortmund-Ems Canal (lower Ems ).
The junction from the Lahe in the west of the Vehnemoores northwest of Bösel is regulated by a gate at the start of the downcomer and by a weir located below in the Lahe . After an acute junction, the canal runs for more than four kilometers almost parallel to the Lahe. Where this turns to the west, it leads further north, then bends in the Ahrensdorfer Moor , to flow south of Ahrensdorf on the border of the Friesoyther Wasserwacht area into the coastal canal.
The lower part of the Lahe down conductor is located in the Ahrensdorfer Moor nature reserve . Since this, like almost the entire Vehnemoor, is drained to the east through the coastal canal, although it lies west of the indirect Ems tributary Vehne , it is the westernmost branch of the catchment area of the Weser .
The main fish species in the Lahe trap are pike , pikeperch , perch , eel , carp , rarely tench and many different species of white fish .
