Former raft pond created in 1680

The Lakenteich, also Lakenhausteich, is a former raft pond in the middle of Solling, about 10 km southwest of Dassel ( Northeim district , Lower Saxony ) .

location

The pond is located approx. 1 km northwest of  the New Pond on Landesstrasse 548 (roughly in the middle between Sievershausen with the manor Friedrichshausen and Eschershausen ). The pond belongs to the community-free area of the Solling in the Northeim district . It lies in a depression between the peaks of Großer Mittelberg and Lakenberg. The standing water is fed from the forested wetland in front of it. The flowing stream flows into the Ilme after approx. 1 km .

history

Forest glassworks

Before the pond was created, the Waldglashütte am Lakenborn , which existed from around 1655 to 1682, was located here. The company was initially managed by the glassmaker Franz Seidensticker and, in addition to a large production hall, also had accommodation for the employees and a school for their children. Was made hollow and flat glass , which in the cities of northern Germany and the Netherlands was expelled.

During the excavations of the facility, which began in 2003 and was completed in 2007, under the direction of Hans-Georg Stephan from the Institute for Prehistoric Archeology at the Martin Luther University in Halle-Wittenberg , the production area of the hut and part of the spoil heaps were examined. Following the excavations, the Association of Culture and Natural History Dreiländerbund Weserbergland restored the main furnace as a partial reconstruction and covered it. In the main furnace, the large furnace openings do not correspond to the current state of research, according to which they used to be much smaller.

rafting

The operation of the glassworks was stopped when the lake pond was created in 1680 for the purposes of rafting . Later the site fell desolate . The pond served to facilitate the transport of beech wood through the Ilme to places on the leash . At that time the area was part of the Principality of Calenberg . The rafting was given up in the early 20th century, as road transport, which had been difficult until then, improved.

natural reserve

The area has developed into a biotope that is suitable for amphibian species protected under the Federal Nature Conservation Act .
