Lance Ryan

Lance Ryan (born May 1, 1971 in White Rock , Western Canada ) is a Canadian opera singer ( tenor ) who has lived in Germany since 2005 . He was best known as Siegfried in Richard Wagner's Ring des Nibelungen , which he sang at 12 different opera houses.

Life

Lance Ryan had been aiming for a musical career since he was in school in Canada, where he played in a rock band. He studied music history and classical guitar at Douglas College in New Westminster and later at the University of British Columbia . There he also began his vocal training, which he continued in Europe, especially with the Italian tenors Gianni Raimondi and Carlo Bergonzi . Then he worked his way up in small steps - with concerts and with smaller orchestras, e.g. B. in Bulgaria and Ukraine . After moving to Germany, he received an engagement at the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe , including roles in operas by Richard Wagner and Richard Strauss , in a Richard Strauss opera he was also seen at the Hessian Staatstheater Wiesbaden , here he played the Kaiser in Frau ohne Shadow . In the following years Lance Ryan made guest appearances at a number of important opera houses abroad, e. B. in Vienna , London , Barcelona and New York , as well as in Berlin , Dresden , Munich and Stuttgart . He also appeared at important opera festivals, e. B. at the Maggio Musicale ( Florence ) and in 2008 and 2019 at the Salzburg Festival . In 2010, 2013 and 2014 he appeared as Siegfried at the Bayreuth Festival , each in Siegfried and Götterdämmerung .

His portrayals of Siegfried from Valencia and Frankfurt am Main have appeared on CDs, DVDs and BluRays. Lance Ryan is married to the Italian mezzo-soprano and nutritionist Viviana Di Carlo. Both have been vegan for years and advocate animal rights.
