The state elections in Carinthia in 1984 took place on September 30, 1984. The Socialist Party of Austria (SPÖ) was able to hold first place and the absolute majority of the mandate, but lost shares of the vote. The Austrian People's Party (ÖVP) also lost shares of the vote, but also lost a mandate to the Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ), which emerged as the winner of the state elections. In addition to the parties established in the Landtag, the Communist Party of Austria (KPÖ), the Carinthian Unity List and Alternative (KELALK), the United Greens of Austria (VGÖ) and the Greens (GR), all of which failed to make it into the Landtag.

In 1984, 385,348 people were entitled to vote in the state elections, which meant an increase in the number of people entitled to vote by 18,949. The turnout in 1984 was 82.96% and was hardly changed compared to 1979 (83.21%).
