The state elections in Carinthia in 1970 took place on February 22, 1970. The Socialist Party of Austria (SPÖ) was able to hold first place and gain an absolute majority in the mandate. While the Austrian People's Party (ÖVP) remained practically unchanged, the Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ) lost a mandate to the SPÖ and the Communists and Left Socialists (KLS) also lost their only mandate to the SPÖ. The Carinthian electoral community , which was still running in 1965, did not stand in the 1970 election.

In 1970 336,378 people were entitled to vote in the state elections, which meant an increase in the number of people entitled to vote by 20,061. The turnout in 1970 was 85.96% and was thus slightly lower than in 1965 (87.05%).
