Langendamm is a district of the district town of Nienburg / Weser in the district of the same name in Lower Saxony and has around 2700 inhabitants.

Langendamm is located southeast of the city of Nienburg / Weser on federal highway 6 in the center of Lower Saxony between Hanover (50 km) and Bremen (70 km).

history

The district of Langendamm was first mentioned in 1531 as "Langen Damm". To this day, this is the oldest reference to the “Long Dam” in the series of border markings between the County of Hoya and the Principality of Calenberg . The first documented determination of the settlement is made in a head tax description from 1664.

In 1935 the munitions plant (MunA) of the Wehrmacht was established. The population of Langendamm increased due to the construction of factories, accommodation and barracks. Much from this time still shapes the image of the district today. After the Second World War , the British armed forces took over large parts of the old ammunition plant and at times also used it as a refugee camp .

In 1956 the Bundeswehr came to Langendamm. It is still based in the Clausewitz barracks today. Are stationed u. a. the 912 Electronic Warfare Battalion; and the Multinational CIMIC Command .

In 1974 the integrated community "Im Wohlde" (Schessinghausen, Husum , Linsburg, Groß Varlingen, Langendamm) was dissolved. Langendamm was incorporated into the city of Nienburg / Weser on March 1, 1974.

The coat of arms is divided into two fields, the upper one being split. On the left, on a golden background, it shows a red-armored (with red tongue and red beak), black eagle's head turned to the right. In the top right field there is a silver horse head turned to the left on a red background. The lower field bears a lying wolf tang on a green background under a silver bar, according to the design worked out by teacher Stelling.

The coat of arms for the municipality of Langendamm was approved by the Hanover government in October 1963.

The Giebichenstein near Stöckse

The Giebichenstein , which is a huge boulder that was deposited as part of a moraine during the Saale Cold Age around 250,000 years ago, is worth seeing . The stone in the Krähe forest area near Stöckse is the largest of its kind in Lower Saxony.

Sports

In Langendamm there is a dart club, a skat club and the SCB Langendamm as a popular sports club (football, billiards, handball, tennis, gymnastics, table tennis and fistball). The first team in the billiards division plays in the 2nd Bundesliga (three cushion).

Langendamm can be reached via Bundesstraße 6 , which is a 4-lane road to Hanover. The Nienburg – Minden railway runs through Langendamm , but trains no longer stop there.
