Laureles Deportivos
The Laureles Deportivos del Perú (German: sport laurels ) are the highest sporting awards in Peru for athletes who have distinguished themselves in an extraordinary way in the practice, work or management of sport, comparable to the silver laurel leaf .
This award is presented by the President of the Republic in an official ceremony in the Palacio de Gobierno , in Lima . Under the current law on the promotion and support of sport (promulgated on March 1, 2004, under the mandate of Alejandro Toledo ), it is also recognized for all persons connected with national sport, including executives, coaches , sports managers, etc.
Award
The award was launched on October 13, 1949 under the government of Manuel Odría , at that time it was awarded by the National Sports Council (today Instituto Peruano del Deporte ). It consists of:
- A medal of recognition consisting of two laurels intertwined in an elliptical shape, including the Olympic symbol, i. H. the five classic circles. In the lower part, which touches the border of the badge, it bears the inscription “Laureles Deportivos del Perú”.
- A diploma to recognize the achievements in which the athlete has excelled.
- The name of the winner, framed by a laurel wreath, is hung on the facade of the Estadio Nacional in Lima (see photo).

The awards currently include the following classes:

List of award winners (incomplete)
The list of laurels has been expanded in recent years, both through exceptions that have been made and through the awarding of sports directors. Traditionally, the names of the award winners were registered in the National Stadium in Lima, but after the renovation, it was decided to place them in a special place called "Paseo de la fama del deporte". The decision to change the position of the National Stadium's inscriptions was for aesthetic reasons, according to Arturo Woodman , then president of the IPD.
