Lauterbach is a district of the municipality of Brixen im Thale with 714 inhabitants (as of May 15, 2001). It is the largest and most populous district of the municipality.

History and geography

The Lauterbach settlement is located about 800 meters above sea level east of the village center of Brixen. The name is derived from the Lauterbach torrent (louder comes from the Old High German word luttar and means clear, bright and aha for water ), which has largely determined the development of the settlement for centuries. In 1812 there were around 30 houses with 167 inhabitants in the district. After the Second World War there were around twice as many houses; today there are over 200 houses with around 900 inhabitants.

The reason for the high population growth in recent decades was on the one hand the price of land and on the other hand the local farmers. Only small-scale farmers lived in Lauterbach, whereas only full-time farmers lived in the village center. These farmers and the church were far less willing to sell land to settlers than the many small farmers in Lauterbach. Thus the actual town center shifted to the east.

Economy and Infrastructure

The agriculture played a major role in the district of Lauterbach. There were predominantly small-scale farmers (on the other hand there were only full-time farmers in the village center) and a few handicraft businesses ( blacksmiths , carpenters , hand weaving shops ). Today the employment structure is much broader and more balanced. Today there are 13 handicrafts and businesses, 13 retail businesses, 14 hotels and restaurants and other facilities such as sports and leisure facilities.

Lauterbach is still the local train station (ÖBB). The Brixen im Thale post office was also located here until 1964 . In the northeast of the district, a private is E-Werk , the few houses with electricity supplies. From 1950 a number of new houses were built, especially along the village street.

Interesting

1946: A severe storm comes in from the Hohe Salve . It hails grains the size of a fist. The Brixenbach overflows its banks and mostly floods the district of Feuring-Winkl. The Lauterbach rages worst. Large stones fill the streambed so that water comes into the village center and takes everything that gets in the way with it. All houses are littered with mud and rubble, all cellars are flooded. The telephone lines are interrupted. Rubble and piles of wood accumulate near the railway. Only near the center does the Lauterbach flow into the Brixentaler Ache. All tin and tile roofs are badly damaged, even in the rectory there is a hole in the roof.

1951: Heavy rain leads to flooding . The Lauterbach muds the main road and the railway body, train and road traffic are interrupted for hours.

1957: The houses in Brixen and Lauterbach are connected to the new water pipeline that goes down from the Gaisberg.

1971: Again violent flooding in Brixen. The Lauterbach bursts its banks again. Workers are on duty until late at night to prevent further flooding.

1975: Flood alarm in the Lauterbach district. The newly built road bridge over the Lauterbach will be torn away entirely. The flood caused great damage.
