Sizwe Ndlovu

Sizwe Lawrence Ndlovu (born September 24, 1980 in Johannesburg ) is a South African rower and 2012 Olympic champion in the lightweight foursome without a helmsman .

Ndlovu began rowing in 1997 and competed in the Junior World Championships in 1999 . In 2002 he took part in the World Cup for the first time with the South African lightweight four-man without a helmsman. He achieved his best placings in 2005 with seventh place at the World Cup in Lucerne and at the World Championships in Gifu. Ndlovu reached an international A-final for the first time at the 2012 World Cup in Lucerne, when the South African lightweight four without a helmsman with James Thompson , Matthew Brittain , John Smith and Sizwe Ndlovu came second behind the Chinese boat and crossed the finish line ahead of the British and Danes came.

At the 2012 Olympic Games , the Chinese did not reach the final, the South African four-man with Thompson, Brittain, Smith and Ndlovu won Olympic gold in front of the hosts from Great Britain and the defending Olympic champions from Denmark. This gold medal was the first ever Olympic gold medal for South African rowers and the second medal after bronze in two without a helmsman in 2004 .

Honors

In 2017, Ndlovu was awarded the Order of Ikhamanga in silver.
