Lee Baxter (born June 17, 1976 in Helsingborg ) is a Swedish football coach of British descent and former goalkeeper . The son of the former Finnish national coach Stuart Baxter is a goalkeeping coach at AIK .

Career

In his youth, Baxter mainly played at the clubs that were mentored by his father. In 1990 he moved to the youth department of Blackburn Rovers before returning to BK Astrio in Sweden in 1992 . In 1993 he followed his father to Sanfrecce Hiroshima and in 1994 to Vissel Kobe .

In 1997, Baxter returned to Europe and joined the Glasgow Rangers in Scotland. At the end of the year he went back to Sweden and hired at AIK , where his father was a trainer. With Magnus Hedman , Anders Almgren and Claes Green, all three goalkeepers had left the club. Therefore, there was a duel with Mattias Asper, who was also newly signed, for the space between the posts. First, Baxter was able to prevail, but had to let Asper go after a poor performance in the 0-2 defeat against IFK Norrköping on the seventh matchday of the 1998 season . Only when Asper left the club in the summer of 2000, he came to another use in the first division . However, he then had to make way for the newly signed Daniel Andersson .

After the end of the season, Baxter went to league rivals Malmö FF . Behind the MFF veteran Jonnie Fedel , however, he only had a place on the bench. In the 2002 season there was a reunion with Asper, who was signed by MFF and remained behind the Baxter substitute. In the summer of 2003 he was loaned to Sheffield United in England , where he was only a substitute.

After a year, Baxter returned to Sweden. There he signed a contract with IFK Göteborg , but was awarded to Bodens BK in the Superettan . After good performance in the second division, he was committed again in 2005 by Malmö FF, but was not used there. Therefore, he left the club after only a year and moved to the second division Landskrona BoIS . In his first year with his new employer, he only missed one game of the season, until the summer of 2007 he was used twelve times in the league.

He has been under contract as a goalkeeping coach at AIK since summer 2007. He is also available to coach Rikard Norling and his successor Mikael Stahre as a substitute goalkeeper, but was not used in the 2008 season or in the 2009 championship season .
