action

Hagir von Amelung is the ruler of the Burgundians. With his son Egil he invaded the land of the Walsungen, killed their king Thorwald and subjugated the people whom he forced to renounce the old gods. The hope of the oppressed now rests on a prophecy according to which the gods will send a chosen one. He will find the king's sword Balmaran and free the Walsungen from the yoke of the conquerors. However, Hagir von Amelung also has the sword sought, as the Pope demands it in return for the coronation of his son Egil as the rightful king of the Walsungen. To get it, he does not shy away from enlisting the help of the witch Kundrie.

One day Odin shows himself to the young Lenya, who was raised as a foundling in a small village by a foster mother. She is revealed to be the chosen one Balmaran is to find. Shortly afterwards, Hagir, on the advice of the witch, raids and burns the small village. She promises her dying foster mother to look for the sword. Lenya and her foster sister Ayescha join the robber Gero and his men. Impressed by Lenya's determination, Gero instructs her in stick and sword fighting and makes her a strong fighter. The two fall in love.

The search for Mimir, a priest of Odin, leads Lenya and Ayescha to a city in the Burgundy. She learns from him that she has to go to the oracle in Dragon Lake. However, while fleeing the city, Ayescha is captured. At Gero's side, Lenya makes her way to the Dragon Lake. There she learns that she must first have her lost chain, a significant artifact , back, which fell into Kundry's hands. The witch has since found out by means of her black magic that Lenya is the daughter of the former King Thorwald and a Valkyrie.

To protect Lenya, Gero knocks down his companion and goes alone to find the chain. Although he can recover the artifact and hand it over to Lenya, he is seriously injured and dies. Following the oracle, Lenya now goes to a consecrated place where she can actually find Balmaran and take it for herself. It comes to a meeting with Hagir, who demands the sword in exchange for the captured Ayescha. Lenya sees through, however, that you are not facing Ayescha, but Kundrie, who is again after the chain. With the sword Balmaran Lenya can kill the witch and bring Hagir's son into her power. Ayescha is set free and the Burgundians have to bow to Lenya's power and withdraw. The prophecy has come true.

criticism

  • Nils Grundmann on digitalvd.de: […] Basically, the viewer cannot expect much from this story or this film. The actors are good and the red thread of the plot can be seen, but the tension is not built up [...]
