Leonardo Burián (full name: Leonardo Fabián Burián Castro ) (born January 21, 1984 in Melo ) is a Uruguayan football player .

Career

The Cachorro called Burián, who plays in the position of goalkeeper , began his career at Nacional Montevideo in 1998 in the eighth division, went through the reserve teams of the club and was part of the first division squad since 2004. He made his official debut in the friendly match at the Copa Teresa Herrera against Deportivo La Coruña at the Estadio Riazor . He was first used in the Primera División in 2005. From 2006 to 2007 he played on loan for Bella Vista and completed 30 league games in this phase. In 2008 he returned to Nacional and played 42 games in the national league since his return to the end of the 2012/13 season. His last competitive appearance was on April 17, 2013, when he played against Barcelona in the Copa Libertadores. In the ranks of the Bolsos , Burián made further appearances at international level and played a total of 31 games in the Copa Libertadores competitions in 2005, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011. He also collected numerous titles at national level in ranks of Nacionals. He was Uruguayan champion four times in the 2005, 2008/09, 2010/11 and 2011/12 seasons. Furthermore, he and his teammates won the Liguilla Pre-Libertadores in 2008 and in 2010 and 2011 the Copa Bimbo held in the summer months . His team also finished first in the Torneo Apertura 2004, 2008/09, 2009/10 and the Torneo Clausura 2010/11.

At the end of January 2014, he joined the first division club Juventud on loan after Nacional had signed a new goalkeeper in Gustavo Munúa . The loan conditions contained, among other things, the clause that he could not be used in the matches against Nacional Montevideo. In the 2014 Clausura he played in seven Primera División games for the club from Las Piedras . In May 2014, the Colombian association Deportes Tolima announced the commitment of Burián. The transfer takes place as part of a loan deal with Nacional. With the Colombians, he completed 24 games in Primera A. After returning to Nacional, he was awarded to the Montevideo Wanderers in early January 2015 . In the 2015 Clausura, he played twelve league games and also played six games in the 2015 Copa Libertadores . During the 2015/16 season he played in 30 top division games. In the 2016 season, 15 more premier league appearances followed and six games played in the Copa Sudamericana 2016 . Chiapas FC signed him in early January 2017 .

Burián was part of the U-17 selection of Uruguay , which took part in the U-17 South American Championship in Peru in 2001 and finished 6th.
