Leonid Fedorowytsch Bykow (born December 12, 1928 in the village of Snamenske , Ukrainian SSR , † April 11, 1979 in Dymer , Kiev Oblast , Ukrainian SSR ) was a Ukrainian - Soviet actor , film director and screenwriter .

Life

Leonid Bykov was born in the village of Znamenske, now part of Cherkaske in Slovyansk district of the Donetsk Oblast in Ukraine . In 1929 the family moved to Kramatorsk and during the German-Soviet War the family was evacuated to Barnaul in Siberia . After his training at the Theater Institute in Kharkov , he worked at the Shevchenko Theater in Kharkov between 1951 and 1960 and at the film studios in Kiev from 1969 until his death .

He had his first film role in 1952 in the film "The Fate of Marina". This was followed by more than 20 other films in which he worked as an actor, later also as a screenwriter and director. His acting was characterized by emotional performance and simple humor. He always embodied generosity and integrity of character in the characters he played. He received the greatest recognition in his films about the Great Patriotic War , where he highlighted the problems of the moral lessons of war and the relationship between the generations.

When he was driving his “ Volga ” car back to Kiev from his summer house, he collided with a road roller near Dymer in Vyshhorod district , where he died immediately. He was buried in the Baikowe Cemetery in Kiev .
