Leopold David de Rothschild

Leopold David de Rothschild CBE , RD (born May 12, 1927 in London - † April 19, 2012 ) was a British banker.

Life

Leopold David de Rothschild was born in May 1927 as the youngest of four children and the second son of Lionel Nathan de Rothschild and his wife Marie Louise Eugénie Beer. During the Second World War he was sent to North America for three years, along with other children of the extensive Rothschild family. In 1943 he returned to England. He attended Harrow School in Harrow on the Hill , in the London Borough of Harrow , did his National Service in the Royal Navy for two years on the HMS Kenya , a light cruiser of the Crown Colony class , and then studied at Trinity College from the University of Cambridge .

After completing his studies, he worked in the banking industry and gained first experience in various banks. Finally he switched to NM Rothschild & Sons . Partner since 1956, Rothschild became director at NM Rothschild & Sons in 1970. As director of, he worked to strengthen NM Rothschild & Sons' activities in Latin America, especially in Mexico , Brazil and Chile . In Brazil, he supported the financing of the Rio Niterói Bridge . From 1970 to 1983 he was a director at the Bank of England and from 1982 to 1995 a director at Sun Alliance & London Insurance.

In addition to his banking career, Rothschild was also committed to promoting music and the arts. Another hobby horse of his were steam locomotives . Among other things, he was a member of the National Railway Museum Advisory Committee . From 1975 to 1997 he was a trustee in the Glyndebourne Arts Trust . From 1987 to 1997 he was a trustee of the National Museum of Science and Industry . From 1988 to 1999 he was Chairman of the Council of the Royal College of Music . From 1990 to 2000, Rothschild was a council member of the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust . In 2001 he became President of the English Chamber Orchestra . A year later the Bach Choir too . In this he had sung for about 50 years. Rothschild was a Fellow of the Royal College of Music.

Rothschild was unmarried and had no children.
