Leopold Demuth

Leopold Demuth (actually Leopold Pokorny ; born November 2, 1861 in Brno , † March 4, 1910 in Chernivtsi ) was an imperial and royal chamber and court opera singer ( baritone ).

Life

Demuth, son of a clerk, studied at the Vienna Conservatory with Josef Gänsbacher . In 1889 he made his debut at the Stadttheater in Halle an der Saale . He then worked in Leipzig and Hamburg . From 1898 until his death he was a member of the Vienna Court Opera .

Demuth was particularly successful in works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart , Giuseppe Verdi and Richard Wagner . Numerous guest performances led to the Bayreuth Festival in 1889, among others . Between 1902 and 1909 Demuth made numerous records .

Honors

Demuth was buried in an honorary grave in the Vienna Central Cemetery (Group 33 H, Row 7, No. 7). According to him, 1936 in Ottakring the Demuthgasse named.
