Leopold March
Leopold March (born February 5, 1944 in Brno ) is an Austrian bio and food chemist and professor emeritus . From 1993 to 2003 he was rector of the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna (BOKU).
Life
Leopold März studied food and biotechnology at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna, where he worked as an assistant from 1969 and received his doctorate in 1972 . He was then on a scholarship from the Fulbright Program at the State University of New York in Buffalo , where he also held a visiting professorship in 1977. In 1978 he was a visiting professor at McMaster University in Hamilton (Ontario) . In 1979 he completed his habilitation in the field of biochemistry at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna , where he was appointed associate professor of biochemistry in 1983 and full professor in 1990, from 1983 to 1992 he headed the Institute of Chemistry.
In 1993 he succeeded Manfried Welan as rector of the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences in Vienna , and in 2003 he was replaced by Hubert Dürrstein in this function. From 1995 to 1998 he was Vice-President of the Austrian Rectors' Conference .
From 1986 he was the founding president of the Austrian Society for Biotechnology, of which he became honorary president in 1996. From 1999 to 2001 he was chairman of the ORF board of trustees , he was also chairman of the supervisory board of the Agency for Health and Food Safety , member of the board of trustees of Danube University Krems and, from November 2006, president of the university council .
