Leopold von Meyer
Leopold von Meyer (born December 20, 1816 in Baden near Vienna , † March 6, 1883 in Dresden ) was an Austrian pianist and composer .
Life
Leopold von Meyer was born as the son of a spa doctor in Baden near Vienna and was originally intended for civil service. When his father died of cholera , he devoted himself to music and received his pianistic training from Carl Czerny and Joseph Fischhof . Soon he appeared in the salons of Viennese society with great success. From 1835 concert tours took him to Bucharest , Odessa , St. Petersburg , Moscow and Constantinople (1843). Very successful tours followed through Austria, Germany, Belgium, England, the USA and France.
Leopold von Meyer, a brilliant technician as a pianist, was a typical representative of salon music as a composer (opera paraphrases, variations, character pieces, fashion dances and piano pieces with an exotic character). Towards the end of his life he was forgotten.
