description
Lespedeza cyrtobotrya is an upright, heavily branched shrub that reaches heights of 1 to 3 meters. The branches are hairy. The leaves are tripartite. The petiole is 1 to 2.5 inches long. The leaflets are broadly ovate, ovate-elliptical or obovate. The terminal is 1.5 to 4.5 × 1 to 3 centimeters in size. The inflorescence is an axillary raceme and shorter than the opposite leaves, rarely about as long. The peduncle is short or the inflorescence is almost sessile. The flower stalk is short and hairy white. The chalice is 2 to 2.5 millimeters in size and five-lobed. The lobes are lanceolate. The crown is reddish purple and about 1.1 centimeters in diameter. The flag is obovate, its base is nailed. The wings are elongated and about a third shorter than the flag and shuttle. Their base is clearly dished and nailed. The boat is similar to the flag. Its base is also drilled and nailed. The pod is spherical, slightly flattened, 6 to 7 × approximately 5 millimeters in size, thinly haired and veined like a network.
The species blooms from July to August and produces fruit in September.
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 22.
