Levis is a district of the city of Feldkirch in Vorarlberg . The place lies between the city center of Feldkirch, the district Altenstadt , the Ardetzenberg and the Amberg.

The district is known for its numerous villas, which were built due to the construction of a railway line through Feldkirch. In terms of the settlement structure of this district, the ribbon-like facility along the main traffic artery (Bahnhofsstraße, Reichsstraße) is characteristic.

The length of Levis is limited towards the city center of Feldkirch by the Capuchin monastery and Feldegggasse and north towards Altenstadt in the area of Raiffeisenstraße.

Levis was first mentioned in 1363 as "Levias".

Amberg Castle

Amberg Castle

This residence is located north of the train station on a low elevation. Construction began shortly before 1502 by the Feldkirch city administrator Felix Merklin . The castle has been in civil private ownership since 1795.

Levner bath

The so-called "Levner Bad" in Weiherweg is a former sulfur bath . It already existed at the beginning of the 17th century and a new building took place in the 18th century. See main article: Levner Bädle .

Churches, monasteries and chapels

City Parish Vicariate Church of Mary, Queen of Peace

This church was built from 1962 to 1965 according to plans by Willi Ramersdorfer and German Meusburger .

Church of St. Magdalena

In the ensemble with the former infirmary, this church was built at the beginning of the 14th century on the main road. After a fire, it was rebuilt in 1559.

The Protestant Pauluskirche built from 1962 to 1965.

On the main thoroughfare in Feldkirch, the Bahnhofstrasse, most of the former manufacturer's villas (all listed) have been preserved, which are still inhabited by family members today. This street was laid out in the middle of the 19th century leading from the Hirschgraben out of town.

Villa mother

Villa mother

This first significant early historical villa complex in Vorarlberg was built in 1855–1866 by the building inspector Karl Spindler in Reichsstraße (No. 170) for the manufacturer Andreas Mutter .

The facade of this brick villa looks like the result of a well thought-out floor plan and the simple, cubic structure reveals the organization of its interior structure in its balanced proportionality.
