The Leyland B21 was a bus chassis from the British commercial vehicle manufacturer Leyland Motors . The type was built in small numbers from 1981 to 1985 exclusively for export. He was also marketed as the Leyland Lion . Leyland had previously used the name for other buses.

The basis of the chassis was the Leyland National , which was completed with components from the Bristol RE . With the O.510, a turbocharged six-cylinder diesel engine from Leyland with a displacement of 8.3 l or a diesel engine 671GM from Detroit Diesel in conjunction with an automatic transmission were used.

A total of only 69 chassis were manufactured. Six of them were delivered to Citybus and Ulsterbus in Northern Ireland , two of them went to Denmark to the Danske Statsbaner and one to Belgium. Five buses that had been ordered for local public transport in Tel Aviv were not delivered because the order was withdrawn and were eventually used in Ipswich . All other buses were delivered to Australia to various operators, most of them to Darwin and Perth , with Australian customers preferring to be fitted with the American engine. These buses were delivered as a completely knocked down kit and received their assembly on site, mostly from the Pressed Metal Corporation . They were configured as regular buses with 41–45 seats. The buses that remained in England and Northern Ireland were given a superstructure by Alexander with up to 53 seats.
