Liberté: A Call to Spy is an American drama directed by Lydia Dean Pilcher , which premiered at the Edinburgh International Film Festival on June 21, 2019 and is due to hit US cinemas on October 2, 2020.

In 1940, Winston Churchill hastily founded the espionage organization SOE in order to disrupt the Nazi war machine. Your mission in France is to station spies everywhere for sabotage and subversion. But the British don't have spies for this new type of warfare, and SOE has to resort to recruiting women. The SEO spy Vera Atkins, who has to hide the fact that she is Jewish because the espionage world is also anti-Semitic, recruits two unusual candidates. One is Virginia Hall, an ambitious American with a peg leg, the second Noor Inayat Khan, a Muslim pacifist. Together, these women form a sorority while they are embroiled in dangerous missions to build a new spy network and stop Hitler.

The Special Operations Executive for short "SOE" was a British intelligence service special unit during the Second World War , which was formed in mid-July 1940 after the evacuation of British troops from Dunkirk and the fall of France by order of Prime Minister Winston Churchill to wage a covert war. This should be done without direct military engagement along the lines of the IRA's actions . The SOE emerged from the amalgamation of three different already existing and secretly operating departments of other ministries and was also referred to as The Baker Street Irregulars , in reference to the headquarters at 64 Baker Street in London . The SOE was dissolved in 1946 and the experience gained and techniques from the Secret Intelligence Service (SIS), better known as MI6 .

Stana Katić plays British intelligence officer Vera Atkins . The role of SOE agent Noor Inayat Khan was cast by Radhika Apte . Linus Roache plays Maurice Buckmaster , a British intelligence officer during World War II. The German actor Marc Rissmann plays Klaus Barbie , a German Nazi war criminal convicted on several occasions, who was known as the "butcher of Lyon" because of his cruelty and who enjoyed the protection of first British and then American government circles from 1945 to 1955, who served him as an agent busy.
The shooting took place in the Hungarian capital Budapest . Robby Baumgartner and Miles Goodall acted as cameramen .
The film premiered on June 21, 2019 at the Edinburgh International Film Festival . On October 2, 2020, it will come to selected US cinemas.
