The Lincoln Airport ( IATA code : LNK , ICAO code : KLNK ) is the commercial airport of the American metropolis Lincoln in the US state of Nebraska .
Location and transport links
Lincoln Airport is located three miles northwest of downtown Lincoln. The airport has a junction on Interstate 80 , which runs east and south of the airport site. In addition, Interstate 80 runs at the airport level on a joint route with US Highway 77 . The US Highway 6 runs south of the airport, while the US Highway 34 north runs from this. The Interstate 180 runs east of the airport. Lincoln Airport is not involved in local public transport. Passengers have to use rental cars and taxis.
history
Funding was made available in April 1928 to purchase the land needed to build an urban airport. The city of Lincoln then acquired around 65 acres. The following year the land was leveled and construction of the airport began. The inauguration of the Lincoln Municipal Airport took place on June 12 1930th
In February 1941, the city applied for the airport to be included in the national defense program. Seven months later, the federal government asked for permission to use the airport. In 1942 the United States Army began construction on the airport grounds. Lincoln Army Airfield was inaugurated on October 4, 1942 . In December 1945, Lincoln Army Airfield was deactivated and seven months later declared redundant. In December 1948, the federal government ended the lease, giving control of the airport back to the City of Lincoln .
In 1952 the United States Air Force leased the airport and used it militarily as Lincoln Air Force Base . In November 1964, the airport was returned to the City of Lincoln. The Lincoln Airport Authority then became the operator of the airport. On December 4, 1974, a new passenger terminal was opened. On August 22, 1975 a new control tower was inaugurated. A parking garage was completed in December 1987.
Four passenger boarding bridges were installed at the passenger terminal in 2002, and two years later the airport was renamed Lincoln Airport .

Runways
Lincoln Airport has three runways . Runway 18/36 is 3932 meters long and 61 meters wide. It is equipped with a CAT I instrument landing system at both ends . The Querwindbahn 14/32 is 2636 meters long and 46 meters wide. The shortest runway at the airport is marked 17/35, is 1768 meters long and 30 meters wide. The runways are made of asphalt and concrete.
Passenger terminal
Lincoln Airport has a passenger terminal . It is equipped with four boarding gates and as many passenger boarding bridges equipped. The passenger terminal was originally opened on December 4, 1974. The four passenger boarding bridges were installed in 2002.
Freight terminal
The freight terminal is at the southern end of runway 14/32.
military
South of the passenger terminal are Nebraska Air National Guard and Nebraska Air National Guard facilities . The 155th Air Refueling Wing is based on the Nebraska Air National Guard . It is equipped with Boeing KC-135R aircraft.
In addition, the base is occasionally used by units from Offutt Air Force Base .
Airlines and Destinations
Lincoln Airport is used by the airlines Delta Connection and United Express . Delta Connection flies to Atlanta and Minneapolis / Saint Paul , while United Express flies to Chicago-O'Hare and Denver .
