Lindaunis Bridge

The Lindaunis Bridge is a road and rail bascule bridge that crosses the Schlei estuary at one of its narrowest points. The bridge is located in the Lindaunis part of the municipality of Boren in Schleswig-Holstein .

Technical specifications

The bridge connects the two peninsulas Schwansen and fishing . The bridge, which has been a listed building since 1997 , was opened to traffic on July 17, 1927 with a chain drive and consists partly of steel trusses and partly of a bascule bridge. In 1975 the drive was converted to hydraulic .

The special feature of this bridge is the mutual use by the regional train, which runs every hour on the Kiel – Flensburg railway line, and road traffic . In addition, the hinged part is opened once an hour during the day at a quarter to, at the same time as the Schleibrücke Kappeln , to allow ships to pass. The bridge is operated from the on-site operations building.

history

From 1881 to 1926 there was a swing bridge in Lindaunis, which crossed the Schlei east of today's bridge. This consisted of a turned part in the middle and two arched bridges on the outside.

Because the swing bridge's opening for shipping was too small, today's bascule bridge was built. The steel framework superstructures were taken over by the Taterpfahl swing bridge .

From 2006 a new electronic interlocking regional (ESTW-R) Lindaunis was built by Funkwerk , whose head office (ESTW-Z) was to be housed in Eckernförde station and to control the Lindauniser Schlei folding bridge and the signals on the entire section between Eckernförde and Flensburg . However, due to problems with the approval, it was never put into operation. After Scheidt & Bachmann took over the Funkwerk division, ESTW-R type ZSB 2000 was put into operation in 2014. The operator station is located in the operations building on the bridge. Because of the bridge there is still an electromechanical signal box of the S&H 1912 type.

It is planned to start construction of a replacement structure further east of the current bridge from September 2020. As before, this will continue to be used by cyclists and pedestrians as well as by road traffic. Preparatory measures have already been in progress since October 2019.

Special

The bridge is known for the ZDF series Der Landarzt and the third film from the Werner series, Werner - Volles Rooäää !!!

The neighboring Lindaunis train station is out of order and is now operated as a restaurant .

Construction of the bridge

Because of the long waiting times and frequent defects, the bridge is to be replaced by a new building, which, according to current plans (as of 2019), is also to be designed as a combined rail-road bascule bridge. The cost is said to be 46 million euros. The maximum speed increases from 30 km / h to 50 km / h on the road and from 50 km / h to 80 km / h for rail vehicles. The approval for the demolition of the listed bridge was given to the railway in a letter dated November 18, 2014.

Construction work should start at the end of 2016. In November 2016 it became known that the start of construction would be postponed due to delays in the approval by the Federal Railway Authority . In July 2019, the Federal Railway Authority approved the new building. The new bridge is to be built to the east of the old building and is 126 meters long. The road is to be widened from one to two lanes, but cars must continue to wait when trains pass through. For the first time, pedestrians and cyclists are to have a three-meter-wide path.
