Regarding the flag of the Mettmann district, the main statute states:

Heiligenhaus			“With a certificate from the Minister of the Interior of North Rhine-Westphalia dated March 20, 1947, the city was granted the right to use a coat of arms. Mettmann			The city bears the designation "District Town Mettmann". It was mentioned in a document for the first time on August 3, 904. Mettmann has been a district town since 1954.
