The list of church buildings in the dean's office in Leipzig contains Roman Catholic churches in the dean's office in the city of Leipzig , in the district of central Saxony and in the district of northern Saxony in the diocese of Dresden-Meissen .

history

The last bishop of the old diocese of Meißen , Johann IX. von Haugwitz , appointed Johann Leisentrit as diocesan administrator for the remaining Catholic areas in Lusatia in 1559 . With that the old diocese of Meissen in Saxony (Mark Meissen) perished. The remnants of the former diocesan area were named the Apostolic Prefecture of Lusatia with its seat in Bautzen . In 1921 the new diocese of Meißen was founded with its seat in Bautzen, in 1979/80 the name was changed to Diocese of Dresden-Meißen and the bishopric was moved to Dresden.
