The list of church buildings in the Bautzen deanery contains Roman Catholic churches in the deanery in Upper Lusatia in the Dresden-Meißen diocese .

history

After the Reformation in Saxony , the last bishop of the old diocese of Meissen , Johann IX. von Haugwitz , in 1559 Johann Leisentrit as diocesan administrator for the remaining Catholic areas in Lausitz. The remnants of the former diocesan area were named the Apostolic Prefecture of Lusatia with its seat in Bautzen .

Because Upper Lusatia belonged to the Kingdom of Bohemia until 1635, a special situation arose here after the Reformation, because the Roman Catholic faith was maintained in many villages, mainly belonging to the St. Marienstern Monastery . This fact contributed significantly to the preservation of the Sorbian language in these areas.

In 1921 the new diocese of Meißen was founded with its seat in Bautzen, in 1979/80 the name was changed to Diocese of Dresden-Meißen and the bishopric was moved to Dresden.

List of church buildings

The list contains the Roman Catholic parish churches in the Bautzen deanery and the associated branch churches or chapels. The number of Catholics in the deanery is 25,782 (as of 2016).
Explanations of the status: B = bishop's church (co-cathedral), P = parish church, F = branch church, K = chapel.
