List of church buildings in the Deanery Gera
The list of church buildings in the dean's office in Gera contains Roman Catholic churches in the dean's office in the city of Gera , in the Altenburger Land district , in the Greiz district , in the Saale-Holzland district and in the Saale-Orla district in the Dresden-Meißen diocese .
history
The last bishop of the old diocese of Meißen , Johann IX. von Haugwitz , appointed Johann Leisentrit as diocesan administrator for the remaining Catholic areas in Lusatia in 1559 . With that the old diocese of Meissen in Saxony (Mark Meissen) perished. The remnants of the former diocesan area were named the Apostolic Prefecture of Lusatia with its seat in Bautzen . In 1921 the new diocese of Meißen was founded with its seat in Bautzen, in 1979/80 the name was changed to Diocese of Dresden-Meißen and the bishopric was moved to Dresden. The diocese extends over today's Free State of Saxony (but without the areas of the former Prussian province of Saxony around Torgau and Delitzsch in the district of Northern Saxony and without the district of Görlitz ). This includes areas in the Free State of Thuringia around Altenburg, Gera and Greiz, which are combined in the Gera deanery.
