List of Classical Archaeologists at the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nürnberg
The list of classical archaeologists at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg includes all professors who taught or are teaching classical archeology at the University of Erlangen . As a rule, this includes all university professors who were allowed to give lectures, i.e. who had completed their habilitation .
The Institute for Classical Archeology was created due to the need for Classical Archeology as a subject, triggered by the emergence of the Collection of Antiquities , which began in 1855 with the establishment of a collection of casts by the philologist and later archaeologist Carl Friederichs and the one formed from it on December 9, 1857 "Archaeological Museum of the Royal Bavarian Friedrich Alexander University" opened under the direction of the philosopher Carl Heyder .
First, an extraordinary office was set up, to which Adam Flasch was appointed on August 16, 1882 as the first professor of classical archeology in Erlangen. When it was converted into an ordinariate, the first independent archaeological seminar was created in 1890.
The first column shows the name of the person and their life data, the second column shows entry into the university, and the third column shows their departure. Column four names the highest position achieved at the University of Erlangen. At other universities, the corresponding lecturer may have made an advanced academic career. The next column lists special features, the career path or other information relating to the university or institute. The last column shows pictures of the lecturers.
