The following list contains the cultural monuments identified in the monument topography in the area of ​​the city of Rodgau , Offenbach district , Hesse .

Note: The order of the monuments in this list is based first on the city district and then on the address; alternatively, it can also be sorted by name or construction time.

The basis is the publication of the Hessian list of monuments, which was created for the first time on the basis of the Monument Protection Act of September 5, 1986 and has been continuously updated since then.

The framing of the elaborate entrance portal is also made of sandstone with a curved gable and coat of arms.

The sandstone memorial cross with an oak wreath for Johann Friedrich Pfaltz, who died in a hunting accident in 1841, originally stood at the scene of the accident in the Himmelschneise, southeast of Dudenhofen. It was moved here when the church forecourt was redesigned at the end of the 20th century.

The late baroque Protestant parish church was built in 1769 in exposed sandstone and was not plastered until 1969 on the occasion of a thorough renovation. The rectangular hall building with bevelled corners and pilaster strips is preceded on its south-eastern narrow side by a square tower, which merges into a slate octagon at the top and has a hooded lantern at the top. In the tower is the church portal with two lions holding the Hanau coat of arms. The transverse interior has a curved three-sided gallery and opposite on the south-western long side the altar with a pulpit arranged above it with an organ structure from 1827.

According to the inscription in the upper floor threshold , the half-timbered house with a rich profile of the threshold zone through grooves between the beam heads was built in 1754 by Johan Peter Walder and Johan Georg Seybel. Johan Caspar Petzinger is named as the carpenter. Due to its arrangement, the eaves side of the three-story house with its high-quality half-timbering also appears in the street scene.

The south and west walls are clad with slate. Until 1908 the house was used as a school house, after vacancy and the local library since 2002 as a registry office.

The striking building at the northern entrance to the village was built in 1880 as a “doctor's house”. The community doctor lived and practiced here. The building was made of brickwork with a sandstone base and cornice. A two-axis central projection emerges from the four-axis main facade . A triangular gable closes this off at the top without protruding over the flat hipped roof. The property has been used by various social and political organizations since the 1960s.

The Catholic parish church of St. Rochus was built in 1890-1893. It is the successor to the Rochus Chapel, which was built around 1650 and stood about 55 meters east of today's church. From the Rochus Chapel, the altarpiece, dated 1687 and depicting Saint Roch, was moved to the new church before it was abandoned . St. Rochus also contains a wooden Vespers from the mid-14th century. The old Rochus Chapel was demolished in 1960.

The Hainhausen moated castle, also called "Haginhusen Castle" in old documents in the 12th century, was the ancestral castle of the early Lords of Eppstein . After the castle was abandoned in the 14th century, it fell into disrepair, was used as a quarry and is no longer visible today as a ground monument. In 2012, after geophysical investigations, the first excavation of the remains of the foundation began.

Rodau Bridge

The importance as a traffic monument of the 19th century, which is rare in the district, makes the small single-arch bridge over the Rodau worth protecting. It was built in 1872 and renovated in 2010. The arch is made of sandstone blocks, large-format house stones are built into the cheeks. A plaque with an inscription on the outside of the southern parapet refers to the builder Jakob Tamm and the client, Mayor Martin Jäger.

The three-zone half-timbered house was built around 1700 and has been almost completely preserved except for the rear gable wall, including the original windows. The front gable wall is extraordinarily ornate. It shows grooved S-struts in the upper part and carved diamonds in the parapet fields of the upper floor.

Like two other towers of the Offenbach Water Purpose Association, the Jügesheim water tower was built between 1936 and 1938. With its height of 45.50 meters, it was responsible for the Jügesheim water supply until 1979. The tower made of brick masonry with concrete bands and a round container part is visible from afar and is closed off by a slate-covered, pointed hood. The stepped, perforated retaining walls are consciously based on the shapes of the buttresses of the neo-Gothic St. Nicholas Church in the town center. The dragon fountains on both sides of the entrance door are more recent and based on original templates. The Jügesheim coat of arms with the year construction started is attached above the keystone of the door arch.

The plastered half-timbered house protruding far into the street was built in the late Baroque around 1750. The slightly protruding upper floor with a hipped roof suggests half-timbering with decorative shapes under its plaster.

In 1874 today's “Mater Dolorosa Chapel” was built as a successor to a small half-timbered path chapel from the 18th century. The plastered building with a black slate roof is loosened up by a sandstone-framed portal and pointed arched windows on both long sides. There is a niche for a saint figure above the entrance.

The type station built on the Rodgau Railway, which opened in 1896, is made of two-tone brickwork with an ornamental frieze and arched motif in the gable and has a gate-like entrance to the former reception hall. The ticket office, waiting room and signal box have been preserved in the building, the latter with technical equipment. The station forms the visual end of Bahnhofstrasse from the old town center. Vacant since 2003. The storage shed built around 1950 burned down in 2004.

The large, plastered half-timbered house on the ground floor with a crooked hip was mentioned in documents in 1738 as the "oil mill". The house protrudes into the curve of the back alley so that, depending on the viewing direction, both the gable and eaves side visually close off the street space. In 1996, the mill was freed from the wood paneling that was added later and the half-timbered structure on the upper floor was restored. Here, built-in beams from 1561 were found. The massive ground floor was rebuilt. Today it is used as a shop and office building.

The two-storey plastered building with a flat hipped roof is known as the "old school". The late classical school building was built between 1870 and 1880. The square-like area in front of the recessed building increases the urban impact. The nine-axis division of the facade with a central projectile and triangular gable gives the building an elongated appearance. The corners are accentuated by brick pilaster strips, while window and portal walls and cornices are made of sandstone. Today senior and youth meeting, city library.

The sandstone cemetery cross with a cast iron body and classicist ornamentation stands on a high pedestal. The inscription names 1841 as the year of construction, the year the cemetery was laid out. The cross was renovated in 1985.

The obelisk has a spherical top, a sandstone relief with an iron cross on the foot and a commemorative plaque on the base. This is the only minimal form of a village courtyard from the 18th century in Rodgau in the area of ​​the first expansion of Jügesheim. Historical details such as the original front door of the Kleinsthofreite with its single-storey house and the small hook-shaped outbuilding have been preserved. As a smallholder, part-time or out-of-home farm, the property is of socio-historical and typological importance. The property, which protrudes far into today's street alignment, shows the narrowness of Mühlstrasse at that time.

The neo-Gothic Church of St. Nicholas was built from sandstone masonry in 1870. The 45.5 meter high tower has a pointed helmet and acts as an urban dominant in the old town center. The statics of the narrow nave is secured by external, openwork buttresses. The church portal is located in the base of the tower. To the right of it on the front wall leans a late baroque crucifixion group made of sandstone. The wooden crucifixion group from the 17th century inside the church, as well as a Vespers picture from the 16th century, come from the previous church a little south of the current building. The organ was built in 1904 by the Würzburg organ builder Balthasar Schlimbach.

The upper and attic storeys in the elaborate form of the Rodgau half-timbering date from the 17th century, while the ground floor is massive. The rich ornamental framework on the gable side shows on the upper floor partially disturbed firebucks and crossed diamonds as parapet ornaments due to built-in windows. Grooved S-struts and carved lugs are visible above. St. Andrew's crosses and a standing chair with high strut figures adorn the framework in the gable triangle.

The double house in late Classicist form with a symmetrical, two-tone brick facade was built at the same time as the old school at Ludwigstrasse 37 as a teacher's residence between 1870 and 1880. The base and walls are made of red sandstone. At the side there are risalits with triangular gables, in the middle there is an entrance for each half of the house with a shared external staircase. A vaulted cellar subjects both parts of the building.

The Hofreite was built around 1680, while the originally preserved courtyard gate has an inscription in the lintel beam with the year 1720. The property is a seldom complete example of the type of farm that used to be common in Rodgau on a long and narrow parcel. The massive ground floor, which has recently been modified, has a half-timbered structure with the striking strut figures and a standing chair that are common here. The gate system made of solid wood consists of a large passage with rounded headbands and a small gate with a grid-like structure. The gate system is protected by a brick roof.

The "Not Gottes" (Not God) from 1754 is a sandstone wayside shrine with a weathered inscription in the base in memory of the plague. The votive picture with a relief representation of the Mount of Olives scene is crowned by a recently added cross. From the original location on Eppertshäuser Weg, initially near the Don-Bosco-Heim and moved here in 2004.

The station building with goods hall, which was put into service with the opening of the Rodgau-Bahn in 1896, differs from the standard station type common in the other parts of the city in that the Nieder-Roden station consists of three instead of two components. The external design, however, is similar in two-tone clinker brickwork with ornament. Details such as windows, dormers and the ornamental framework of the goods hall have been preserved in their original form. When the S-Bahn began operating in December 2003, the station as such was given up. External use as a bakery / bistro since 2006.

The wayside shrine from 1757, which is now on private property, has a small, pointed gable housing for a no longer existing image of the Virgin Mary. The wayside shrine stands on the former processional path of the Rochus pilgrimage from Hainhausen to Dorndiel in the northern extension of the Babenhäuser Weg and the Roman road.

The sandstone wayside shrine with a votive image of the Trinity stands on a curved pedestal. The cross and pillar were added during the renovation, the inscription is no longer legible.

The original location of the Nepomuk statue from 1761 was on the Rodaubrücke in Babenhäuser Weg (today Römerstrasse). From there it was relocated to the first Nieder-Rodener town hall in Ober-Rodener Straße 47 around 1900. When the town hall was demolished in 1970, the statue was placed on the south side of St. Matthias Church and finally in 1996 on the property fencing of the nurses' house in Schulstrasse. The sandstone statue of the bridge saint, Nepomuk, stands on a curved pedestal with an inscription consisting of a chronogram. The Roman numerals contained in the text add up to 1761.

The church tower of St. Matthias is the oldest building in Rodgau. The original defense tower was first mentioned in 1298, when an initially small church, which was expanded in 1542, was already attached to it. To the south of the tower stands today's parish church, built between 1895 and 1896 instead of the previous building. The Marian bell (1518), the late Gothic Marian altar (1520) and a Pietà from the same period were taken over from the previous building . Under the flat, cloverleaf-arched end with filigree tendril carvings, the Marien Altar has sculptures of the Mother of God with Child, Saint John and the church patron Matthias. Four other apostles are shown in relief on the inside of the wings. According to the inscription, the altar was repainted in 1656. Outside the church tower is a former sandstone cemetery cross from 1762.

The two-arched bridge of the old federal road 448 over the Rodau near the former intersection with the old B 45 is one of the rare traffic monuments of historical importance from the 19th century in the district. The bridge consists of sandstone brickwork with arched arches. The year of construction is inscribed in 1810 and a restoration in 1899.

In the corner with eaves facing Pfarrgasse, the Hofreite from the early 18th century forms a leading building in the old town center. In 1904 the property received a remarkable gate system made of two-colored brick masonry with a wooden courtyard gate.

The old syringe house of the Weiskirchen fire brigade was built in 1906 in the style of historicism . From the plastered building with broken stone base and two arched gates, a roof turret protrudes as a hose tower, flush with the facade. The gable and tower are clapboard. The overall shape is reminiscent of village churches in Upper Hesse. The property has been a local museum since 1995.

Completed two years after the opening of the Rodgau-Bahn in 1896, the station building corresponds to the series from the era of the branch line expansion of the Prussian-Hessian State Railway. The station has the usual details of this series: two-tone brick masonry with ornaments, roof overhang on ornate consoles, arched motif in the gable, and a large gate opening. The goods hall was added later. The station has been used as a residential building since 2003.

The saint's case was originally built in 1450 to house a Vespers picture at the Obermühle. Today there is a portrait of Mary in the niche. The massive, plastered housing with a tile covering in the form of a gable roof rests on a high, unadorned base with a suggested cornice. The holy house is of local and religious historical importance,
St. Peter in chains

The original building of the Catholic parish church St. Petrus in Ketten was built before 1287. It was replaced in 1417–1491 by a new building in Gothic style with a west-facing tower. In 1890 the nave was torn down to the foundation walls and a larger transverse structure was erected in simple, neo-Gothic forms. In 1892–1917 the upper part of the tower was renewed. In 1943 the church burned down due to the effects of the war and was rebuilt by 1949. An extension in a northerly direction took place in 1956. The foundations of the nave, the vaulted hall of the tower and the choir with a 3/8 end, including a stone sacrament house, have been preserved from the Gothic period. The furnishings of the church include a wooden crucifixion group (1496) above the altar, another cross from the 16th century and a Baroque Madonna (1692).
Nepomuk
Nepomuk Weiskirchen , Pfarrgasse 4

The sandstone Nepomuk statue with a seated putto on a high plinth with an inscription, erected in the renovated rectory, dates from 1737. The Rodau Bridge in Bahnhofstrasse is assumed to be the original location of the bridge saint.
