(map)
Around 1890 Pratau – Torgau railway line ; clinker buildings typical of the time with flat gable roofs, built-on goods handling with upstream loading ramp, of importance for the history of the railway and the local area. Elsnig station was set up in 1890 by the Prussian State Railroad as part of the construction of the Pratau (Pretzsch) –Torgau line. The reception building with attached goods handling and the toilet block are of architectural significance. They were built in the typical reddish-yellow clinker brick construction. The reception building has a decorative design of the facade with a surrounding frieze and a cornice. An extension for a dispatcher interlocking was built at the station building around 1960. The reception building is currently used as a residential building and has been partially rebuilt. A siding to an ammunition store was set up south of the station during the GDR era, which is why the line also became of military importance.

The route connected Pratau, now in Brandenburg, with Torgau, which was still Prussian at that time, and also gives the route a significance for the history of transport. The line, a branch line, was laid out on the initiative of the neighboring communities and the industrial companies located there, including Tonwerke Dommitzsch. They hoped for an economic upswing in the otherwise agricultural region. Both Pratau and Torgau were already connected to national rail networks. Accordingly, the Elsnig train station is also of importance in terms of local history. In 2000, however, the line was stopped. Efforts have been made since 2004 to reactivate the route and use it for tourism.
