Saxon postal mile pillars (totality): Post mile pillar
Saxon postal mile pillars (totality): Post mile pillar Alte Poststrasse
(map)
re. 1724 Half-mile column, important in terms of traffic history.

Saxon half-mile pillar made of sandstone, with various inscriptions. Stele tapering downwards on pedestal, final plate with crowning, two mirror fields with different inscriptions. Mirror 1: Wermsdorf 1 St. 1/4 , post horn mark , 1724 , 2nd mirror: Wurtzen 3 St. , post horn mark , 1724 , post column at original location , About 5 km west of Wermsdorf, in the direction of Sachsendorf between the forest wings D and E on the north side of the road, it has row number 18, in 1975 an original head piece with a new cover plate by the Dahlen master stonemason Georgi and a new font. In 1722, the Electorate of Saxony began to erect the Saxon post-mile pillars. Elector Friedrich August I wanted to build a modern traffic and transport control system in the electorate in order to promote trade and economy. He entrusted Magister Adam Friedrich Zürner (1679 - 1742) with the implementation. The system of post mile pillars comprised distance pillars, quarter milestones, half and full mile pillars. The distance columns should be set up in the cities in front of the city gates, later only on the marketplaces. Quarter milestones, half and full mile pillars were set up along the Poststrasse. They received a consecutive numbering (row number), starting from the beginning of the measurement. The all-mile columns were set up outside the cities on the post roads at a distance of one mile (= 9.062 km). The distance columns were marked with the monogram AR for Augustus Rex , the Electoral Saxon and Polish-Lithuanian double coat of arms and the Polish royal crown. The full mile, half mile columns and quarter milestones were all similarly labeled, none of them had a coat of arms, but the monogram AR . The distances were given in travel hours (one hour = ½ post mile = 4.531 km). This mile system was the first European traffic management system. The pillar considered here is of great importance in the history of traffic as part of the nationally significant postal system.

(map)
1894 Structurally, historically and scientifically of importance, clinker brick building from the Gründerzeit, hospital component, part of the whole of the Hubertusburg palace complex.

A clinic has existed on the grounds of Hubertusburg Castle since 1837. The former state hospital was greatly expanded from 1893 and turned into a sanatorium and nursing home for the mentally ill. During this time, several new wells and the water tower were built, which, in its function as a water reservoir, was supposed to ensure the independent, central water supply of the extensive system. The striking, red brick building is designed in typical historicist forms from the late 19th century. It is divided into an octagonal base storey made of quarry stone and brick and a slender, round tower shaft, between which a cornice slightly exposed over brick consoles mediates. The tower shaft is kept simple and unadorned - narrow, staggered slotted windows provide light. The sloped container storey, which is windowed through by paired, rectangular windows, juts out over a hollow. It is closed by a conical roof, the eaves edge of which has wooden decorative elements. As part of the former Hubertusburg sanatorium and nursing home, the water tower bears witness to the boom of this facility, which was important for Saxon hospital history, and the self-sufficient water supply of such a large hospital area at the end of the 19th century. It is therefore of building and technical historical value.

Totality of Royal Saxon triangulation ( European degree measurement in the Kingdom of Saxony ); Station 18 Collm; Albert tower with triangulation column 1st order station (Map) re. 1854 high-quality neo-Romanesque observation tower of regional historical significance, triangulation point of significance in terms of surveying history.
  • Tower: 18 meters high, neo-Romanesque tower with battlements, plastered, partly original windows, spiral staircase running outside. - Erected in 1853 - 1854
  • Triangulation column: cylindrical column, Niederherwegsdorfer granite, 49 cm in diameter, 1.2 m high, inscription: Kön. Sächs. / Station / COLLM / DER / MITTELEUROP./ GRADMESSUNG / 1865 , 1st order trigonometric point in the system of land surveying of the Kingdom of Saxony (number 18).

In the period from 1862 to 1890, a land survey was carried out in the Kingdom of Saxony, in which two triangular networks were formed. On the one hand, there is the network for grade measurement in the Kingdom of Saxony (network I. class / order) with 36 points and the royal Saxon triangulation (network II. Class / order) with 122 points. This national survey was led by Prof. Christian August Nagel, according to which the triangulation columns are also referred to as Nagel’s columns . This surveying system was one of the most modern layer networks in Germany. The surveying columns set for this purpose remained almost entirely in their original locations. They are an impressive testimony to the history of land surveying in Germany and in Saxony. The system of surveying columns of both orders is in its entirety a cultural monument of supraregional importance.

The historic Collmberg near Oschatz, which was also called Spielberg until the 19th century , is a striking landmark in the largely flat area of the Wermsdorf Forest. Its entire hilltop encloses a medieval rampart from the 10th century, other ramparts can be found in the area. The 18 m high Albert Tower, built in 1853 from donations, was used as a lookout tower as early as 1854. Later he went into state administration. The observation tower was already an important main station of the European degree measurement system in Nagel's first network design. The substructure of the location of the column on the southern outer wall of the tower was stabilized. Up to about 1 m below the column, the wall of the tower was replaced by sandstone blocks and supporting stones were added, on which the stone slabs of the exit are attached to the railing. From Collm it was possible to observe station 15-Fichtelberg almost 100 km away. The Collm-Keulenberg triangle formed the first line in the Saxon measurement network, derived from the Großenhainer base line and the base enlargement network.
