Detailed memorial texts

  1. Bornitz Manor:
The building erected in the 17th century once belonged to the extensive courtyard of the former Bornitz manor, which was a defining component on the northeastern edge of the small village. Unfortunately, hardly anything has been preserved from the buildings of this knight's seat, which dates back to the high Middle Ages (first mentioned in 1200). In particular, the demolition of the castle in 1947/48 is to be lamented. It was on the east side of the courtyard.
Of the few remaining buildings in the service yard, only the storage building in question has been preserved in its historical inventory to such an extent that it embodies a monumental value. It marks the former south side development of the former knight's estate and has a defining effect on the street scene. The two-storey plastered building, mainly made of quarry stone, shows interesting individual forms that lead to the above-mentioned dating to the 17th century. Above all, chamfered door and window frames in sandstone are to be mentioned, but also the design of the east gable with a small triangular crown and the corner emphasis with plaster ashlar. The wooden structures inside are also noteworthy, especially the stately lying roof structure with leaf connections. A more recent elevator probably belonging to a mixing plant refers to the former use of the building as a grain store.
The informational and documentation value that the property represents relates on the one hand to the history of the Bornitz manor complex. The storage building keeps the memory of their existence and meaning alive in a clear form. In this sense it has a historical significance. On the other hand, it is a valuable testimony of its kind due to the time of its creation and characteristics, in that it refers to the agricultural basis of the manor and shows which types of construction were created for these purposes in the development of manor architecture. From this point of view, it is of architectural significance.
