Totality of Royal Saxon Triangulation (" European degree measurement in the Kingdom of Saxony "); Station 104, Hohenwussen | Dorfstrasse (map) |
Marked 1868 | Triangulation column; Second order station, of significance in terms of technology history. Triangulation column in the cemetery wall from 1863, square floor plan, high base, Laussnitzer granite, heavily darkened, height 1.9 m, height bolts and cover plate available, inscription "Station / HOHENWUSSEN / der / Kön: Sächs: / Triangulierung / 1868."
The Hohenwussen station is designed as a 1.9 m high pillar made of Laussnitz granite. It is integrated into the wall of the church cemetery. The station stone is unique in the network of station stones because, on the one hand, it is not freely accessible from all sides and, on the other hand, because the church in the north-east represents a considerable restriction of view. Today all views through the tall linden trees are practically lost. The stones for marking the station were produced in a quarry near Königsbrück in a small series and then transported to the site. The stations 103 (Eichardthöhe) and 102 (Schleinitzhöhe) also come from this production and were built at the same time. At least six sets of directions have been measured on the pillar at different times for network densification. Churches were also taken into account. The height bolt was not inserted into the pillar until later, when the degree was measured there was a height mark on the church. |

Water tower | Dorfstrasse 24 (behind) (map) |
1966 | Technical monument, hydroglobe construction type , convincing in terms of design through material and shape, characterizing the landscape, spherical water tank, with aluminum skin. The so-called hydroglobe was built in 1966 on the site of the old windmill near the village of Hohenwussen in order to meet the increased water demand of the surrounding villages. It is a type of construction developed in Hungary, the assembly time of which was limited to around two months due to the prefabricated components and which was often used as an industrial water tower. The Hohenwussener water tower was imported from Hungary, assembled on site with the help of German and Hungarian specialists and erected using the straightening process. The customer for the 28.5 meter high tower was the VEB water supply and wastewater treatment Leipzig, Döbeln area. The water tower impresses with its minimalist design. The spherical water tank covered with aluminum sheet (capacity 100 m³) sits on a 80 centimeter narrow, cylindrical shaft, which is guyed with six steel cables.
Due to its exposed location, the hydroglobe Hohenwussen has a role to play in the landscape. At the same time, with its production history, it bears testimony to the economic relationships between the former, socialist-led countries of the GDR and the People's Republic of Hungary and is therefore a monument of high social and technological historical value. |
