Fiehn post mill
More pictures
Fiehn post mill Görschlitzer Strasse 7
(map)
1846 A striking example of a characteristic post windmill, of technical historical importance, shaping the landscape. Post windmill with gable roof on one side with crest (new), original trestle, rods renewed, presumably converted, grinding mill, named after the last master miller, grinding technology last renewed in 1940 and the mill operated until 1975, 1993 restoration of the building, no technology except for the comb wheel and shaft inside .

The "Fiehn mill" in Authausen is a post mill. This type, which has been known to have been known since the Middle Ages, is also known as the "Teutsche Windmühle" because it was particularly widespread in the German-speaking area. The post mill, built around 1846, consists of the trestle, the covered mill case and the winged cross. The trestle, after which the mill takes its name, serves as the supporting foot of the system. It consists of stone foundations, the threshold cross, the trestle frame (storm straps), the saddle and the house tree. The flour bar rests on the vertical house tree, pivoted. The mill box is built around this statically essential construction. Also important is the codend attached to the mill box, with which you can turn the mill into the wind by hand. The mill box of the Fiehn mill was converted into a museum after the renovation / reconstruction in 1993. Two comb wheels, the braking device of the comb wheels and the wing shaft (rod shaft) are still preserved from the technical equipment. The monument quality of the Fiehn mill in Authausen results on the one hand from its exemplary value for the development of milling with post mills, which is widespread in Germany, here in the 19th century. In addition, there is the remarkable ensemble effect in terms of landscape design with the neighboring “Ludwig mill”.

Post mill Ludwig with mill technology

Post mill Ludwig with mill technology Görschlitzer Strasse 8
(map)
Marked on the house tree with 1713 A striking example of a characteristic post mill, significant in terms of technology history, has a rarity value with its comparatively complete equipment and also shapes the landscape. Bock old, housing new, gable roof, roof house, shingle roofing, rods renewed during the last renovation, used for grinding until 1985, forms a dual mill location with Görschlitzer Strasse 7 post mill.

The mill box of the Ludwig mill consists of a total of three floors. The lower floor is dominated by the house tree and flour bar, while the technical equipment, such as the comb wheel, rod shaft, gearbox, bag lift, braking device, grinding shoe with vibrating shoe (as a shot path), crush, silo, cleaning and sifter are concentrated above. Originally there were two grinding tunnels, the rotary movements of which were conveyed by the windmill blades or rods including the rod shaft via a vertical upright shaft (no longer preserved) and gears. The monument property of the Ludwig mill in Authausen results on the one hand from its exemplary value for the development of milling with post mills, which was widespread in Germany, especially in the first half of the 18th century, and on the other hand its rarity. It is one of the few windmills in Saxony that has still been fitted with equipment and is therefore able to convey the functionality more clearly than other such objects. Added to this is the remarkable ensemble effect in terms of landscape design with the neighboring Fiehn mill.

From the facilities of the camp mainly building foundations (accommodation barracks, farm and functional buildings, community house), the path system connecting the buildings as well as posts for the telephone, bunker remains and ditch systems have been preserved.

  • Built in 1935/36 as a readiness camp for the construction workers of Deutsche Sprengstoffchemie Moschwig (DSCM)
  • From 1942 it was converted into a forced labor camp for Eastern European workers and expanded, secured by works security and fencing with barbed wire
  • 1943 1,347 people in the camp, 97.5% of whom were Eastern workers from the Ukraine, had difficult working conditions and poor living conditions
  • April 1945 dissolution, escape of the guards

The Heide camp is a testament to the inhuman policies of the Nazi regime aimed at conquest and exploitation; it points to the fact that the camp system played an important role in the enforcement of the dictatorial conditions and in the war-like planning of the Nazi state. It shows that in addition to the concentration camps, which represented the worst form of organization within the oppressive apparatus, there were also various other types of camps (forced labor camps like here or labor education camps elsewhere). The Heide camp testifies to the functioning of a forced labor camp and the living conditions of its inmates. For these reasons, the object has a high historical value and documentation value.
