During the Second World War (1939–1945) there were no carnival events.
Since 1946
Mainz was badly hit by air raids in the last months of the Second World War . The city was largely in ruins and those responsible for the Mainz Carneval Association originally had no intention of holding a carnival event in the first year after the war. However, on the initiative of the French city commander Louis Théodore Kleinmann , the MCV organized the so-called Mainz evenings .
