The list of Prime Ministers of Somalia includes all holders of this title from Somalia's independence in June / July 1960 until today.
After the outbreak of the civil war, there was no functioning central government for a long time. The transitional government of Somalia , founded on the initiative of the international community, was regarded internationally as the legitimate representative of the country at the United Nations and other organizations, but controlled only a tiny fraction of the former national territory.
Following military intervention by the neighboring states of Kenya and Ethiopia against the militant Islamist al-Shabaab and the corresponding successes of Somali militias and clans who advocate the restoration of Somalia, a new constitution as a federal state was agreed in autumn 2012. Since then, the newly created federal government has endeavored to rebuild state functions and integrate further clans and groups.
Of the various de facto autonomous states that have since emerged in the area, the respective incumbent was often not recognized or the transitional government was generally denied the right to occupy. The office of Somali Prime Minister as such was not in doubt. An exception is Somaliland , which has no longer considered itself part of Somalia since it was founded in 1991 and has set up a different system of government without the office of prime minister for the area it controls.
