This is a list of the Belgian envoys and ambassadors to the United Kingdom (since 1953).

history

As early modern territorial units of today's Belgium, the Burgundian Netherlands (1477–1556), the Spanish-Habsburg Netherlands (1556–1714) and the Austrian Netherlands (1714–1795) belonged to the territories of the Holy Roman Empire and stood in each case under the direct sovereignty of various branches of the House of Habsburg . Although at that time it never appeared as a sovereign state in diplomatic relations with foreign powers, this “Southern Netherlands” played a special role in the relations of the Roman-German emperors with England and the United Kingdom .

After the Belgian Revolution and the proclamation of the Kingdom of Belgium on October 4, 1830, the United Kingdom was one of the first states to recognize the sovereignty of the Belgian state and to establish diplomatic relations . The London Mission became the most important foreign mission for the state, whose territorial integrity was threatened at the time . The British government supported the convening of the London Conferences of 1830 and 1838 , which resulted in Belgium being recognized internationally.
