Proportion of Welsh speakers in the total population

This list shows the administrative breakdown of Wales and the corresponding percentage of the population with knowledge of Welsh in Wales according to the 2011 Census of Great Britain . Welsh speakers outside Wales were not included.

The census divides knowledge as follows:

  • understands Welsh (no other skills)
  • speaks Welsh but cannot write or read Welsh
  • speaks and reads Welsh but cannot write Welsh
  • speaks, reads and writes Welsh
  • other combination of language skills
  • no knowledge of Welsh

In this table all possible answers have been combined except for "no knowledge of Welsh"
