List of castles and fortifications in the Ohm Mountains

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The list of castles and fortifications is a directory of historical castles , waiting areas and other fortifications on and on the ridge of the Ohm Mountains in the Eichsfeld district in Thuringia .

backgrounds

The Ohm Mountains are up to 533 meters high shell limestone mountains in the northeastern part of the Eichsfeld district between the northwestern shell limestone framing of the Thuringian basin near Leinefelde-Worbis and the Harz . On the northern edge of the Ohm Mountains ran the tribal border between Thuringian and Saxon tribes, which was probably protected by a Landwehr. Even today, this settlement boundary forms the language boundary between Low German and Central German dialect in Eichsfeld . The medieval Landwehr ran east of the Ohm Mountains between Eichsfeld in Electoral Mainz and the county of Hohnstein .

List of fortifications

The list is sorted by fortifications along the layer level of the Ohm Mountains in clockwise direction starting at Worbis. The fortifications on the two witness mountains Harburg and Hasenburg south-east of the Ohmgebirge were included.
