List of bioluminescent mushrooms

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This incomplete list includes bioluminescent mushrooms . All previously known bioluminescent fungi are saprotrophic and belong to the Agaricales group . In 2014, 77 species were counted.

The cause is the oxidation of luciferin by the enzyme luciferase in living cells, as described in the article Foxfire . The light emission occurs at a wavelength of 520 to 530  nm . The bioluminescence can occur in the mycelium and in the fruiting body , e.g. B. in Panellus stipticus and Omphalotus olearius , or in the mycelium and in young rhizomorphs , as in Armillaria mellea . In Roridomyces roridus , bioluminescence occurs only in the spores , in Collybia tuberosa in the sclerotia .
