Little Caesars is an American fast-food chain that specializes in pizza . In the USA it is number three behind Pizza Hut and Domino’s with 4,237 restaurants in 2019, and internationally it is head-to-head with Papa John's Pizza for third place.
history
The Macedonian -stämmige entrepreneur Mike Ilitch founded on May 8, 1959 in Garden City , Michigan with his wife Marian, the Little Caesar's Pizza Treat . The first restaurant that still exists today was opened there in a shopping center.
The Detroit , Michigan- based chain has been advertising with its catchy slogan "Pizza, Pizza" since 1979 . This was originally based on the advertising tactic of offering two pizzas for the price of one from a competitor. In 1985, four years before Domino’s competitor , Little Caesars added the so-called pan pizza , which is placed on a pan in the oven, in its range. In 1998, the company received its largest order to date, with 13,386 pizzas, from clothing company VF Corporation . With Hot-N-Ready , the company has been offering a large salami pizza for five US dollars since 2004, which can be picked up without pre-ordering or waiting.
Products
Little Caesars mainly specializes in pizza, but also offers side dishes such as pizza bread or chicken wings . In addition to the classic products, mainly topped with cheese, pepperoni salami, pineapple or Italian sausage, there are also special pizzas with bacon or pretzel batter in the rim, as well as a vegetarian variant.
Ilitch Holdings
Little Caesars has been part of the family-run Ilitch Holdings since 1999 , which, after Mike Ilitch's death in February 2017, is headed by his widow Marian and the youngest son, Christopher. The holding company also owns several professional sports teams, including for example, the hockey team Detroit Red Wings or the baseball team of the Detroit Tigers .
distribution
As of June 1, 2018, the chain was represented with 4,332 restaurants in the United States in 2017, and in all states of the country since 1987. There are also branches in Asia , Australia , Latin America , Canada and on the Caribbean islands .
There were only a few branches on the European market, for example in the Czech Republic or Slovakia , connected to offshoots of the US Kmart supermarkets. So far there has been no restaurant in Germany, Austria or Switzerland.
Trivia
The company makes various charitable contributions. Under the motto The Little Caesars Love Kitchen, for example, it has been offering free products to homeless people and victims of national disasters such as the September 11, 2001 attacks since 1985 . Since 2006 there has been an offer for war veterans who need help opening their own companies.
Little Caesars founder and owner Mike Ilitch was also committed to the economic and infrastructural development of his hometown Detroit until his death and was one of the investors in the Little Caesars Arena , Detroit's newest multifunctional arena, which opened in 2017, and Ilitch also owned the Detroit Red Wings and the Detroit Tigers .
