Little Falls is a town in Herkimer County , New York in the United States . In 2010 the city had 1587 inhabitants. Little Falls got its name after the waterfalls there.
The Town of Little Falls is east of Utica , and at its eastern end is the city of the same name .

According to the United States Census Bureau , the Town of Little Falls has a total area of 58.5 km², of which 58.0 km² is hilly land and 0.5 km² (= 0.75%) is water.
The area of the town extends on both sides of the Mohawk River .
New York State Route 169 and New York State Route 170 , both of which run in a north-south direction, meet within the City of Little Falls. New York State Route 5 runs east-west and follows the Mohawk River.
Demographics
At the time of the United States Census 2000, Little Falls was inhabited by 1,544 people. The population density was 26.6 people per km ². There were 637 housing units at an average of 11.0 per km². The population Little Fallss consisted of 98.51% of White , 0.26% Black or African American , 0.06% Native American , 0.71% Asian , 0% Pacific Islander , 0.06% said other races to belong and 0.39% named two or more races. 0.26% of the population declared to be Hispanic or Latinos of any race.
The residents of Little Falls distributed to 580 households out of which 35.9% were living in children under 18 years of age. 65.0% of households were married, 7.8% had a female head of the household without a husband, and 21.6% were not families. 17.8% of households were made up of individuals and someone lived in 8.8% of all households aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.66 and the average family size was 2.98.

Established businesses
Redco Foods, a subsidiary of the German Teekanne Holding , operates a bag tea plant in Little Falls on an island in the Mohawk River.
Rail transport
The Schenectady - Syracuse section of the main line of the New York Central Railroad from New York via Buffalo to Chicago runs through Little Falls . This route is now operated by CSX Transportation . The Amtrak passenger transport company has route usage rights. In 2012 the route was operated by the Lake Shore Limited , Empire Service and Maple Leaf trains. A serious railway accident occurred here on April 19, 1940 when Lake Shore Limited was carried out of a curve due to excessive speed. 30 people died.
On the opposite bank of the Mohawk River was the route of the West Shore Railroad , a later subsidiary of New York Central. This redundant line was shut down by its successor company Penn Central .
